High point university: panthers advisory
DSST Byers Advisory Program
One of my favorite things about DSST Byers is our advisory program! Throughout our 6-12 program, students are assigned an adviser who serves as their "person" for the school year.
Ms. Ethridge's Alma Mater
As a graduate of High Point University, my advisory is lovingly called the High Point University Panthers (RAWR)! High Point University (HPU) is located in High Point, North Carolina--it is a medium sized, private university focused on a liberal art education. HPU is currently ranked #1 Regional Colleges in the South by US News & Report. The teacher education program is ranked in the top 10% in the Nation by the National Council of Teacher Quality.
The HPU Panthers Den
The High Point University Panthers aim to be one of the proudest, most collaborative, and cooperative groups of students in our school! Throughout the school year, the HPU Panthers work to live the "Panther Advisory Definition"; "A TEAM that pushes each other to be successful while having a TON of fun!"
We intentionally spend quality time together in a variety of formal and informal ways. The Panthers meet every morning and afternoon for advisory and/or homeroom to maintain habits of academic success. Each Wednesday, the Panthers meet for an advisory lunch to focus on our individual and group connection to our community. Finally, on Thursday during interventions the Panthers meet for an optional "Panther Palooza" to work on study habits, test taking strategies, homework, and test corrections throughout the year!
As a Panther Parent-- you can expect to hear from Ms. Ethridge one time per month regarding your Panthers' progress through each month. Additionally, you will hear from Ms. Ethridge weekly to highlight the "Panther Update" which includes academic focuses for the week, the announcement of Panther of the Week, and shout outs from the Panthers Den.
